The Sacramento Police Department has made an arrest in the death of a 42-year-old woman found dead in a hotel room.

Police received a report of a possible dead person in the third floor room of a hotel on Northgate Boulevard on Wednesday.

The Sacramento Fire Department accompanied Sacramento Police officers to the room, where they discovered and pronounced April Fowler deceased.

A caregiver for Fredrick Tatum, 52, called police after becoming suspicious during a brief visit with him at the door of the hotel room, prompting him to request a welfare check on the victim.

Tatum was in the room when officers arrived and immediately detained. He was taken to police headquarters for questioning and was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender.

Police believe that Tatum, a friend of Fowler, had physically assaulted her, causing fatal injuries, police said.

Tatum was additionally charged with murder Friday.
