PLACER COUNTY-

It’s been one week since two little boys died when they were riding an ATV and fell into a pond in rural Placer County.

Now, amid the grief, friends are coming together.  Sunday afternoon they held a barbecue fundraiser to help support the parents of 5-year-old Blake Cronkhite and three year old Jayden Secrest.

"It’s a tragic thing for both families, Jayden and Blake.  Nothing you can say or do to make it better that’s why we’re putting this fundraiser together to try and help out,” said friend, Paul White.

Friends who organized the event are thankful for the flood of donations pouring in from loved ones, and perfect strangers.

"It touches their heart to have a child lose their life, to have two children at this point, they just want to be part of it,” said event organizer Lindsay Blackburn.

This accident has devastated so many.  None more than the boys’ parents.  This week FOX40 spoke with Secrest’s father.

"He was trying to give him CPR and that’s when I noticed it was water and that’s when I just noticed he was dead, man he was dead and nothing we could do but Brandon kept trying and trying,” Billy Secrest said.

Secrest relieved those frantic moments from last week.  He also shared videos of the two best friends during happy times.

Now during this dark time, friends hope their fundraiser will help both parents lay their little boys to rest.

Anyone who wants to help the families can donate through Heritage Church in Lincoln.
