SACRAMENTO-

One person was killed and two others are seriously injured after a vehicle involved in a pursuit with police struck another vehicle in North Sacramento on Sunday night.

The suspect being chased by police was a validated gang member and had an outstanding felony arrest warrant, according to police.  He was spotted by officers in the area of Rio Linda Boulevard and Eleanor Avenue.

Upon seeing officers, the suspect immediately fled on foot to a parked vehicle and drove off westbound on Eleanor Avenue, according to police. The suspect then intentionally drove directly at one of the pursuing officers, nearly striking one of the officers on foot.

As the suspect fled, two officers in patrol cars attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. The suspect refused to yield to the officers and a pursuit began.

The suspect ran a stop sign at Helena and Del Paso Boulevard and hit a truck that was traveling southbound on Del Paso Boulevard.

Both vehicles were pushed into the yard of a home on Del Paso Boulevard near Las Palmas Avenue.

Following the crash, the suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by officers

The female passenger of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Police said both victims live in the area and are in their early 50s.

The suspect was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He will be transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail and booked on numerous felony charges including assault on an officer, felony evading and vehicular manslaughter.
