Three Placer County police agencies zeroed in on a homicide suspect Thursday afternoon. The search put neighbors in Rocklin on high alert.
Deputies identified the suspect as 28-year-old Robert Yandolino.
Yandolino was holed up in the Whitney Ranch Apartments. Many residents were unable to return home for hours.
"When I pulled up to the intersection up here I was told I couldn't come into the units," said resident Jeanette Lachambre.
It was a minor inconvenience, but Lachambre says she's thankful officers responded quickly.
"We had every available detective and deputy on the road today searching for this guy because he was considered armed and dangerous," said Placer County Sheriff's spokesperson Dena Erwin.
It all started around 9:45 a.m. Thursday when Placer County Deputies responded to a homicide at a home near Newcastle.
One man was found dead in a car with a gunshot wound to the head. Another was hurt after being hit with a blunt object.
The Sheriff's department alerted nearby police agencies to search for Yandolino.
Officers tracked him down in Rocklin.
"We were able to find an associated vehicle with the suspect in an apartment complex across from Whitney High School," said Rocklin Police Captain Lon Mika.
The SWAT team surrounded the apartment complex. Before 3 p.m. cops took Yandolino into custody.
While neighbors were shaken, they were relieved knowing the chaos ended peacefully.
A motive is still unknown. The sheriff's department says this does not appear to be a random act.
The victim has not been identified.
