ROSEVILLE-

A box of clothes and books meant for the homeless was destroyed after it created a bomb scare Wednesday in Roseville.

The box was first seen late Wednesday morning under a bridge at Douglas Boulevard and Park Drive.

“There are no obvious signs that the box contains an explosive device, but we’re using an abundance of caution,” read a post on the City of Roseville Public Safety Facebook page.

Eastbound traffic was diverted onto Judah Street, and westbound traffic was diverted to South Lincoln Street.

Explosive Ordinance Disposal officers destroyed the box and its contents, which were meant to be a donation.

“It would have been a better strategy to donate those items through one of our local agencies that serve the homeless,” City of Roseville Public Safety wrote.
