A water main at Land Park Drive and 11th Avenue burst Friday morning, sending gallons upon gallons of water into the street.
According to Bill Busath, the city's Department of Utilities director, crews need to shut off the main before repairs can begin. Shut-off valves are typically hidden in back yards of homes, presenting a challenge to city crews, Busath said.
The city was called out just before 5 a.m.
The main itself is believed to be more than 100 years old. Land Park has some of the oldest mains in the city.
A neighbor told FOX40 Friday morning that this break was the second or third break in about 10 years.
Once the main is shut off, crews are expected to take four to six hours to repair it.
