Police have identified a suspect in the brutal beating of a woman outside St. Patrick’s Church in Grass Valley.

Police say at 5:30 Sunday morning a man approached 78-year-old Mary Grace Tassone, struck her, stole her car and left her on the sidewalk with severe head trauma. Police say it was nearly two hours before someone saw her and called 911.

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Alan Kierkegaard (aka Sorenson) in connection with the assault. Charges on the warrant are attempted murder and carjacking.

Grass Valley patrol officers said they contacted Kierkegaard at about 1 a.m. Sunday in Condon Park. Investigators were able to link the clothing description witnessed by patrol officers to clothing worn by the suspect seen in church surveillance video around the time of the assault.

Kierkegaard’s whereabouts are unknown. Police believe he may have fled the area.

Kierkegaard may be in the victim’s stolen vehicle, which is a 2013 gray Honda Accord with California license plates: 6ZHX462.
