SACRAMENTO --

Three people were shot near a playground in South Sacramento Monday night. Family members tell FOX40 one of the victims is a 4-year-old child.

Benjamin McGhee moved to the complex on Phoenix Drive and Creeks Edge Way three days prior to the shooting.

"A baby got shot, it's scary. It's scary. I might want to move," McGhee said.

He's shocked knowing not even a young child is shielded from gun violence in this neighborhood.

"It hurts me to see a little kid get shot. Right here. it seems like it's safe, you got the gates right here. It seems like it's a nice community," McGhee said.

Sacramento police say about 9:30 p.m. Monday someone fired shots into the private park. Bullets struck the child and two adults during a family gathering.

"We do know that paintball guns were involved, and at that time, we had an unknown suspect who actually produced a real handgun and fired shots into the park striking the victims," said Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Justin Brown.

An hour and a half after the first shootings, a second young victim was grazed with a bullet. It happened on Roanoke Avenue and Belden Street in Del Paso Heights.

Police say someone fired shots into a car. A girl under the age of 13 was grazed in the neck. Cops say the suspect sped off.

"It's never a good thing when a child is shot, let alone an adult. We want any help from the public we can get so we can solve these crimes," said Officer Brown.

The two adults and two children are expected to recover from their gunshot wounds.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sacramento Police Department.
