VACAVILLE --

A woman was stabbed just after 1 p.m. Monday at the CVS pharmacy on Elmira Road in Vacaville, police said.

The 52-year-old woman was taken to Kaiser Hospital with multiple stab wounds to the back. She underwent surgery for the life-threatening wounds. She is out of surgery and is in the intensive care unit, listed in critical condition.

A male suspect was taken into custody. The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old James Barnes, according to police.

Police say Barnes attacked the woman unprovoked. The two do not know each other and police say the attack appears to be random.

The CVS will remain closed while investigators collect evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Chris Lechuga at (707) 449-5269 reference case 15-06567.
