Social Media Video Leads to Arrest of Two Men After Midtown Shooting

Two Sacramento men were arrested early Friday morning, after a video on social media showed them driving and shooting a firearm in the air.

The Sacramento Police Department received a several reports of a Periscope video of two men riding in a car, smoking marijuana and recklessly discharging a pistol. After an investigation into the video, detectives discovered the identity of the suspects, and a possible location of the crime.

The suspects, 28-year-old Damon Batson and 25-year-old Carlos Gonzalez, were arrested later that night. Gonzalez was located in an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Hurley Way, and Batson was detained while driving in the area.

When officers searched the car Batson was driving at the time of his arrest, they located the gun believed to have been used in the video.

Batson was booked on several charges, including weapons violation and and possession of a cultivated substance while armed with a loaded firearm. Gonzalez was charged with gross negligent discharge of a firearm and possession of a loaded gun in public.
