Butte Fire Destroys 6 Homes

AMADOR COUNTY —

The 4,000-acre Butte fire has destroyed 6 homes in the between Calaveras and Amador counties.

The fire started Wednesday afternoon on Butte Mountain Road.

Cal Fire reports the fire is expanding in all directions due to factors like high heat, low humidity and the dry grassy terrain.

Firefighters have contained the wildfire at 20 percent.

Road Closures in the area include: SR25 and Hwy 49 at Mokelumne Hill East to Ridge Road,  SR26 and Robinson Ranch, SR26 and Jesus Maria,  Clinton Road at Butte Mountain Road, Amador Ln at Clinton Road, SR49 at Electra and Ponderosa Road.

Access to Lake Tabeau is also closed.
