Lodi Police Kill Suspect in Shootout with Police
Thursday afternoon, at least twenty evidence markers sat on Pleasant Avenue near Chestnut Street, next to a pickup with bullet holes in the windshield.
“They emptied the clip and they put another one in and started firing,” said a witness who didn’t want to be identified. He says bullets flew dangerously close to him.
Lodi police say it all started when officers responded to a McDonalds on Lodi Avenue to search for a wanted suspect.
They found him armed with a handgun. Shots were fired, killing the suspect and leaving one officer hurt.
“We heard some gunshots. Several. Like, three,” said Rosalia Hernandez, employee at Needham Elementary.
The school went on lockdown during lunch time.
“Everything was secure we closed blinds turned off the lights, everything. And we kept the children calm,” Hernandez said.
Parents picking up their kids hoped to shield them from the violent scene outside.
”It’s just horrible, just crazy. She’s small and wont understand yet but still as parents we care about our kids and its just crazy when we hear that someone gets shot,” said parent Mayra Gonzalezz.
The officer is expected to recover from his injuries. The shooting is still under investigation.
