ELK GROVE --
After nearly 12 years of courting Costco, Elk Grove has finally been chosen for a new giant warehouse store.
"This is a big deal. Costco coming to Elk Grove is a huge economic boost for our community," Mayor Gary Davis said. "It will provide shopping, it will provide 200 jobs, it's a piece of land here just vacant, surrounded by homes waiting for something like Costco to come along."
Davis says the city will formally approve the design and zoning plans early next year, with construction expected to begin in early summer.
The store's plans include a 24-pump gas station that could expand to 30 pumps. Davis says the store will also serve as an anchor for the plot of land at Bruceville Road and Elk Grove Boulevard.
