A 12-year-old female Cesar Chavez Middle School student was groped while walking to a friend’s house before school, according to the Ceres Police Department.

During the assault, which happened near the intersection of Eastgate and Helen Perry, the girl was able to kick the suspect, break away from him and run away to safety, police said.

The suspect fled the area on foot. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate him.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 5-feet-11-inches, in his mid- to late-20s, with a dark-colored beard. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

The Ceres Unified School District sent an alert to all schools in the district and is working closely with investigators.
