Police Arrest Man in Connection to Weekend Shooting of 13-Year-Old Girl

WEST SACRAMENTO —

West Sacramento police have arrested a man in connection to the weekend shooting of a 13-year-old girl.

Sonny Martinez, 39, of Stockton, was arrested and booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, battery with serious bodily injury and a gang enhancement.

About 8:50 p.m. Saturday, 13-year-old Alize Valadez was at her grandmother’s home watching a movie on the couch when several bullets were fired at their home. One of the bullets struck Alize in the head.

She was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center — where she is now on life support.
