SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities in the San Francisco Bay Area are on heightened alert this weekend after a terrorist attack in Paris left hundreds of people dead and injured.

The Oakland Tribune reports Saturday (http://bayareane.ws/1kVmAby ) that police in Oakland will increase patrols of this weekend’s professional sporting events. The events include an NBA basketball game at Oracle Arena Saturday and an NFL football game at the Coliseum on Sunday.

San Francisco police officers will maintain high visibility although there is no known threat in the United States, the department said in a statement.

San Francisco Ofc. Albie Esparza, a spokesman, told the Associated Press on Saturday that the department often increases patrols after attacks such as the one in Paris.

He asks the public to remain vigilant and report anything that seems suspicious.
