SACRAMENTO--

The Sacramento Republic FC released new renderings Tuesday for a planned Major League Soccer stadium, to be situated in Downtown Sacramento's railyards.

According to the project's website, builtforsacramento.com, the stadium will feature a steep, 32-degree bowl that wraps completely around the pitch. The roof will also wrap completely around the bowl, giving shade to seats while leaving the pitch under the sun.

It will feature 25,000 seats.

The architect chosen for the project was HNTB, who designed Levi's Stadium, Raley Field and the Cal Memorial Stadium, among other facilities.

The City Council will discuss the development's term sheet Tuesday evening.

The stadium actually being built depends on whether or not Sacramento is given a Major League Soccer expansion. MLS passed over Sacramento’s expansion bid this past spring, despite the Sac Republic FC’s popularity and USL championship-winning inaugural season.

Should Sacramento secure an MLS expansion, the stadium would open in 2018.

Meanwhile, the Sac Republic FC will continue to play games at Bonney Field in Cal Expo.
