ROSEVILLE--

Three suspicious, gift-wrapped shut down the Vernon Street Town Square in downtown Roseville Thursday around 10:30 a.m.

"We had a very astute citizen that saw something, and said something," Roseville Police Lieutenant Cal Walstad said.

The three packages were under the Christmas tree in Town Square, outside the post office across the street and inside the post office.

"What goes through my mind is, it's probably nothing, but better be safe than sorry," Oliver Bell at Roseville Cyclery said.

The Christmas tree already has "presents" under it, but they're simply wood blocks that have been painted.

The boxes found Thursday were empty, but cause for alarm after last week's tragedy in San Bernardino.
