STOCKTON --

It's been nearly two months since the life of a semi-pro football player was taken in Stockton.

Cedric Purify was shot and killed near Fats Bar and Grill on Pershing Avenue on Oct. 18, and his family still has no answers about his death.

No suspect or motive was released back in October, and nearly eight weeks later, the Stockton Police Department still has no updates.

Sherie Tyson, Cedric's mother, said she won't rest until there's justice for her son, and she's calling on the community to come forward with answers.

"I just don't want my kid to be a slab of meat on the floor," Tyson said.

Cedric leaves behind a 2-year-old son. His family said he went to church every week, played football for the Central Valley Hurricanes and wasn't involved in gangs, which is why understanding how this happened is so hard for them. Tyson cried as she asked why someone would kill her baby.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the Stockton Police Department.
