MODESTO —

Thousands of people were left without power in Modesto on Thursday afternoon when power poles were knocked down along Coffee Road.

According to the Modesto Irrigation District, a cypress tree fell and took down one line out, causing 10 to 12 power poles to fall.

Thousands of customers were left without power, but as of 9 p.m. Thursday night, only 150 to 200 remained in the dark.

Crews will work through the night to fix the poles and restore power. Coffee Road is closed between Celeste Drive and Floyd Avenue. It will remain shut down until crews are finished with their repairs.

Crews from Turlock Irrigation District are assisting Modesto with the repairs.
