HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) — A body has been found inside a truck connected to a man who wounded a San Francisco Bay Area transit officer in a dramatic shootout.

A San Francisco Bay Area transit spokeswoman says a man’s body was found inside a U-Haul truck that officers saw being pushed by 27-year-old Charles Goetting on Friday morning.

Gonzalez says officers approached Goetting in a parking area at the Hayward station around 11:15 a.m. because they thought he was acting suspiciously. As the officers tried to identify Goetting, he ran, turned and shot at the officers in pursuit.

One of the officers was shot in the arm, and was later treated and released from a hospital. Goetting was shot by a second officer, underwent surgery and is in stable condition.

Police found the body later Friday.
