Carmichael Assault Now Being Investigated as Homicide

CARMICHAEL —

A man who was assaulted last week in Carmichael has died, according to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department.

Just after 9:30 on Wednesday, the Sacramento Metro Fire Department responded to a medical call near Fair Oaks Boulevard and Grant Avenue in Carmichael.

Ruben Gabriel Ambrus, 39, was in medical distress and was transported to an area hospital, detectives said.

Ambrus was treated for head trauma. Hospital contacted the sheriff’s department because they said they felt Ambrus’ injuries were consistent with an assault.

Detectives began their investigation. Witnesses confirmed an assault happened near where Ambrus was found.

On Sunday, Ambrus died from his injuries.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. The motive of attack remains unclear.
