A minefield of evidence markers blanket the area where chaos erupted in a Vallejo neighborhood - bullets flying just before 4 p.m.
"My daughter's father in San Francisco called me and said there was a shooting near [our] house," said a worried Lisa Tantriella as she stood in front of her house, a few doors down from the scene.
Ninety-six-year-old Earl was in the bathroom in his home across the street from the shooting when he thought he heard the sound of some roof repair he'd requested from his landlord. "I heard this knocking. It must have been gunshots."
Instead, police say he was listening to at least two men fire shots into a Monte Carlo two men were working on a half a a block away at 509 Porter Street.
Those shots killed one man at the scene and injured another critically. A woman was hit in the hand and a 9-year-old was shot in the face.
"They were inside the house," said Vallejo Police Captain John Whitney.
All of the victims are related, but officers won't say how.
Investigators are hopeful all those who made it to the hospital will survive.
"It's terrible," said Rose Johnson.
Johnson's only lived in the area for three months and thought she'd picked a nice, quiet neighborhood, but things have been changing.
"There's been a shooting every month -one up the street, one next door, and now this one," she said.
There are reports of two men leaving the shooting scene in a maroon sedan, but police have not offered a more detailed description.
They're also withholding the names of the shooting victims, pending notification of family members.
