SACRAMENTO--

A 2-year-old girl reportedly shot herself Monday afternoon in south Sacramento, according to sheriff's deputies.

Investigators say the shooting happened just before 2 p.m. on Countryfield Drive, just south of Gerber Road.

The girl's mother called 911 saying that her daughter had accidentally shot herself.

The girl was taken to the hospital, and she was listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies say two women were home at the time of the shooting, but neither of them have been arrested. One of the women was identified as the toddler's mother.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the shooting and determine how the toddler had access to the weapon and who it belonged to.
