The Sacramento Regional Transit Board of Directors has voted to increase fares by 10 percent.

Many residents came out to the meeting to speak against the fare hike, which will go into effect July of this year.

Basic single fare will go from $2.50 to $2.75, a day pass will go from $6 to $7 and a monthly pass will go from $100 to $110.

The board also voted to cap Paratransit rides at 44 rides per month.

This follows an announcement last week that RT will be hiring 30 new ticket checkers to crack down on people who are riding the light rail without buying  passes.
