ELK GROVE–

Elk Grove Police say they have arrested two people in connection with an armed robbery of a Walmart cash room in February.

On Feb. 9, police say a man, later identified as 45-year-old Gilbert Smith, made his way to the cash room of a Walmart on Elk Grove Boulevard and used a copy of a manager’s key.

Smith brandished a gun and took off with an undisclosed amount of money, detectives said.

Police say investigators were able to identify Smith as their suspect, and later learned Smith’s girlfriend is a manager at the store. Smith was arrested in Sacramento and his girlfriend, 33-year-old Shenita Barnes, was arrested in Elk Grove.
