SACRAMENTO —

A baby hummingbird is getting a new lease on life.

The little bird was found kicked out of the nest and nearly dead on the ground, the Sacramento Fire Department said.

The department posted a Facebook video showing a paramedic firefighter feeding the baby hummingbird warm sugar water on Wednesday afternoon.

The little bird will be fed sugar water for the next 48 hours and then it will be started on small bugs.

Since firefighters don’t know whether the bird is a male or female they’re calling it “Pat.”

Pat was handed over to the Wildlife Care Association Thursday morning.
