RIO LINDA --

Around 4 a.m. Tuesday Metro Fire crews were dispatched to a vacant home in the 2300 block of Missouri Way in the Elverta area.

At the time of their arrival, heavy fire was coming through the roof. Dangerous conditions inside forced the firefighters to continue fighting the fire outside the home until it was found to be stable again inside.

Damages are estimated at $50,000 but, a large portion of the home was saved and neighboring homes were protected.

They are investigating the fire as suspicious because of its vacant status.

One firefighter was injured while extinguishing the fire and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
