SACRAMENTO--

A Caltrans project along Interstate 5 and Airport Boulevard begins Tuesday evening, and may complicate your drive to Sacramento International Airport.

Caltrans suggests travelers leave 30 minutes earlier than normal on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Lane restrictions will be in effect on northbound I-5 heading to the airport. Some detours suggested by Caltrans are:

  • Drive past the Airport Boulevard exit on I-5 and continue north over the Sacramento River to County Road 122
  • Take Old River Road under the freeway to County Road 118, merging onto southbound I-5
  • Continue south on I-5 and take Exit No. 528 to the airport
  • When you get to the stop sign on Airport Boulevard, turn left

The project is to lengthen an auxiliary lane and exit ramp to the airport. Work begins Tuesday night, and the offramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
