SACRAMENTO COUNTY -- A Rancho Cordova family is warning their neighbors around Hagan Community Park about a coyote that killed their beloved chihuahua.
The chihuahua's owner explained she had just let her dog outside to do his business on the front lawn in the early morning hours Monday when she saw the coyote snatch him and run away.
The dog's body was later found in the park.
The owner and her family urge people in the area of Rhoda Way and Hagan Community Park to keep a close watch on small pets and children.
According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website, "coyotes primarily hunt rodents and rabbits for food but will take advantage of whatever is available including garbage, pet food, and domestic animals."
