Paul and Bethany have Kimberly Foss, a certified financial planner, on the phone to discuss ways to cut back costs while still enjoying your dream vacation.

Kimberly says the best way to save money on vacation is through flights and hotels. Her best piece of advice is... not to pay for them! She suggests using credit card reward points. Find the right rewards card for your purposes, then use it for all your purchases. But don’t forget to pay if off each month!

Then she says not to eat out. A major expense on any vacation is food. Try booking a room with a small refrigerator, and hitting up the local Costco to stock up on snacks, water, etc. Also, try to find a hotel with a complimentary breakfast!

Lastly, avoid buying gifts. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment and plunk down a lot of cash for knickknacks that end up in your getting donated or in the trash. If your heart is set on buying a souvenir, ask a local for shops that offer the best prices for the most authentic gift.
