CARMICHAEL — For reasons that remain unknown to the California Highway Patrol, a car – apparently going the wrong direction on Marconi Avenue just east of Garfield in Carmichael – smacked into a power pole early Wednesday morning.

“I don’t know if he was distracted, there is the possibility that alcohol may have played a factor,” says CHP’s Todd Vanlindt.

The crash sent telephone and cable lines across Marconi Avenue and shut down the road until 9:30am Wednesday morning.

According to the SMUD ‘outage map’ about 75 customers – the majority of them living in a nearby apartment complex -lost power for most of Wednesday as cruise work to fix the issue.

The driver of the car that crashed into the pole was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
