MODESTO — A Modesto karate instructor has been arrested on several molestation charges after Modesto police detectives learned he allegedly sexually abused a 14-year-old boy in his home for almost a year, police said.

Detectives with the special victims unit launched an investigation last week after learning Carlos Loya, 50, molested a former karate student about three years ago, according to police.

The victim, who was 14 years old at the time, often went to Loya’s home, where the sexual abuse allegedly took place.

Wednesday morning, Loya was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a minor, sodomy, child molestation and oral copulation.

Detectives encourage anyone with information on this case to call (209) 342-9123 or Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
