STOCKTON -- The “Crosstown Big Fix" may create some headaches for Stockton Con and Xfest visitors. Caltrans announced the closure of the Crosstown Freeway on weekends back in April, which will temporarily close the roadway at 10 p.m. on Friday.

The crosstown freeway is a major roadway which intersects Interstate 5 and Highway 99. Caltrans says the “Crosstown Big Fix” is supposed to replace work equipment, install surveillance cameras and improve the overall safety of the freeway.

The closure might impact the thousands who are expected to visit Stockton for Stockton Con and Xfest, but there are ways around it by driving through city streets.

"It’ll probably be easier for me, because I know how to get around," Luis Villalobos, a Stockton driver, said. "But I know that people that are trying to get to the events will probably have a hard time. It’s the main crossing for I-5 and 99, so it’ll be hard on the residents."

Caltrans said the freeway will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday. The closures will take place some weekends until December.
