SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A woman hit by a falling tree branch while visiting a San Francisco park with her two children is paralyzed.
San Jose television station KNTV reports Sunday the 100-pound tree limb fell 50 feet and fractured Cui Zhou’s skull and severed her spinal cord.
Zhou told the television station from her hospital bed she is not able to move on her own and is in a lot of pain.
Zhou’s 5-year-old daughter was playing in the sand and her 9-year-old girl was sitting next to her mother, but walked away with only a scratch when the tree branch gave way last week.
City arborists have determined the pines in Washington Square park are in good condition, and say what happened to Zhou was a freak and tragic accident.
