UC Davis Research Center Helps Limit Earthquake Damage

DAVIS -- A research center at UC Davis plays a key role in the engineering of modern infrastructure like bridges, buildings highways and dams.

The UC Davis Center for Geotechnical Modeling is home to the worlds largest centrifuge equipped with a shake table.

Small scale models of large building projects are put to the test on the centrifuge to simulate pressure and ground shaking.

Researchers are able to evaluate how various soils and structures respond to large geological events.

The findings are used to improve the earthquake resiliency of critical infrastructure.

The center is funded by the National Science Foundation.

More information is available on the at the center's website.
