Residents Rescued From Citrus Heights Apartment Fire

CITRUS HEIGHTS -- Five people had to be rescued from an apartment fire in Citrus Heights off of Greenback Lane early Friday morning.

A man on the second story suffered burns while attempting to save his young son from the flames.

Investigators believe the boy became scared causing him to run back into a room. The dad jumped out of the second story unit in an attempt to find something to put the fire out but when he returned, the flames were too intense.

When firefighters arrived they found the boy in his room unconscious. He was revived and then sent to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

One neighbor reports seeing flames as tall as 6 feet.

Five apartment units were damage and two adults and one child were transported to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but Metro Fire believes it started on the second level.
