Mayor Kevin Johnson Hit in Face with Pie at Dinner Event

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson was involved in an altercationĀ at a farm-to-fork dinner event on Wednesday night.

The mayor's spokesperson says a man came up behind the mayor and put a pie in his face around 6:40 p.m.

A Sacramento police officer assigned to the mayor's security detail called for backup and was able to restrain the man without incident, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

The man has been identified as 32-year-old Sean Thompson.

The mayor's spokesperson confirmed that Johnson defended himself during the attack.

Police say during the assault the man suffered a minor injury and was transported by the Sacramento Fire Department to an area hospital for treatment.

The altercation happened at the Seeds of Hope Harvest Dinner at the Sac High Garden.

Thompson was arrested on felony charges of assaulting a public official and will be booked into the Sacramento County Jail.
