OROVILLE — Oroville Police say they have arrested a man suspected of shooting arrows at people.

Officers responded to the dog park area of Riverbank Park on Wednesday after getting reports of a man carrying a compound bow. One caller said the man had shot an arrow at him.

Witnesses reported seeing the archer in a brown Plymouth mini-van, but officers had no luck finding it.

Later that evening, officers got another call about the man — this time at the Tower Mart along Olive Highway. He was reportedly pointing the bow at customers and an employee of the shop. The man had disappeared by the time officers arrived, according to police.

Early Friday morning, a van matching the witness description from Wednesday was seen by an officer at the AM/PM gas station on Oroville Dam Boulevard. Officers found a compound bow sitting in the front seat.

John Wilkeson, 51, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a deadly weapon and violating his probation. He was booked into Butte County Jail.

No one was said to have been hurt by any arrows.
