LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed by Los Angeles police at the end of a weekend car chase.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office says he is 18-year-old Carnell Snell Jr. of Los Angeles. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.

Police say Snell was shot after he ran from a car that officers had tried to stop because they suspected it was stolen. Police also say a gun was found where he died.

Police haven’t released details of the shooting, which has sparked protests. A group of several dozen demonstrators blocked an intersection near the scene of the shooting Saturday night. Some people waved signs that read “Black Lives Matter.”

It’s the latest of several recent deaths of black men during confrontations with police agencies in Southern California and throughout the U.S.
