Officers Shoot and Kill Man After He Stabs Man, Police Dog

CONCORD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say Concord police shot and killed a man after he attacked another man and stabbed a police dog.

KTVU reports ( ) the incident took place Tuesday afternoon after officers responded to reports that a man had been stabbed.

Police spokesman Cpl. Christopher Blakely says police gave orders for the man to surrender and then sent in a police dog. The man stabbed the dog in the face with garden shears. Police then shot the man. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. His name and age were not released.

The stabbing victim was transported to a hospital and is expected to recover. The police dog was taken to a vet and is expected to recover.

A motive for the original stabbing was not immediately released.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
