Hours-Long Search for Suspect Comes to an End in East Sacramento

EAST SACRAMENTO -- After an hours-long search, parolee Manuel Vasquez surrendered to authorities peacefully around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Sacramento police were searching for the 29-year-old Monday night after they received reports of a man they said may have stolen a car and could be armed.

Police received a call of a possibly stolen car, and then saw the car near McClatchy High School. The driver of the car led police on a short chase before bailing from the vehicle.

A perimeter was set up near C and 33rd streets. Police were in the area since about 5:15 p.m. Monday following the car chase.

Streets in the area were taped off by police, and people living in the area were advised to lock their windows and doors.

Some businesses were evacuated during the search. SWAT teams are on scene a helicopter has been up in the area searching for the suspect.

Police said the suspect may be holed up in a business industrial complex in the area.
