SACRAMENTO -- A California Highway Patrol officer shot someone Friday afternoon near Date Avenue and Tyler Street, just south of Madison Avenue.

Investigators say an officer saw a man walking down Date holding a handgun. The man not only refused to drop the gun, but raised it at officers, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's Sgt. Tony Turnbull.

Two officers fired at the man, who was then taken to a nearby hospital. He later died from his injuries.

No officer was injured in the shooting.
