FRESNO — A baby was discovered in the backseat of a parked car Friday afternoon while the 10-month-old’s babysitter sat drunk and passed out behind the wheel.

At 2:40 p.m. a citizen found Meche Rosales, 40, and Raul Gomez, 44, of Fresno asleep in their car, according to Fresno Police spokesman Tony Botti. They had left their friend’s baby in the backseat.

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies found the car parked next to a park at the intersection of North Del Mar Avenue and West Mesa Avenue.

The vehicle had several bottles of vodka inside. Rosales appeared to have been drinking with Gomez, who was under the influence of methamphetamine.

The 10-month-old’s mother had entrusted Rosales with taking care of her child while she was at work. She had no idea that her friend had been drinking around the baby.

Medics confirmed the baby was healthy and uninjured.

Rosales, who was cited for misdemeanors of DUI and cruelty to a child, has been released from Fresno County Jail following her arrest . Gomez is scheduled to be released on charges of misdemeanors of public intoxication and cruelty to a child.
