TRUCKEE -- With snow in the forecast and ideal snow-making conditions expected this week, Boreal Mountain Resort and Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe have both announced opening days of Friday, November 18.

The website, OnTheSnow, also lists Heavenly, Kirkwood, Northstar and Sugar Bowl among the resorts opening November 18, though nothing on those resorts' individual websites confirmed this as of Monday night.

OnTheSnow also points out that opening dates are subject to change, based on conditions.

During the first half of November, most nights in the Sierra were too warm for snow-making, which works best when temperatures are below 28 degrees and humidity is low.

In ideal conditions, resorts can tap into their pond water and spray it through snow-blowing machines so that it falls to the ground as snow.

In addition to the machine-made snow, a weak weather system will likely deliver a few inches of natural snow in the high Sierra on Wednesday, followed by another storm over the weekend.
