SODA SPRINGS -- They say fake it 'til you make it, but at Boreal ski resort it’s more like fake it 'til you blanket -- that is blanket the mountain with man-made snow.
They’re running snow guns 48 hours straight to be able to open Friday.
“It may be limited operations based on what happens out of this storm, but we’re real excited to open Friday,” said Tucker Norred with Borreal’s Marketing team.
Other Tahoe area resorts have the same idea.
Soda Springs may open Sunday. Sugar Bowl fired up their snowmaker Wednesday for the first time hoping to open ahead of their projected Dec. 10 date. Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood, Squaw, and Alpine Meadows are also making snow aiming to open the day before Thanksgiving.
At Boreal, they’d previously hoped to open by Halloween. Now they're planning to make up lost time by opening more lifts than in previous opening weekends.
About 100 seasonal workers, about one-fifth of their peak workforce, will be on duty Friday.
