AUBURN -- Two 18-year-olds were killed Thursday in a crash along Highway 49 in Auburn.

According to the CHP, the white BMW the teens were in lost control near Joeger Road and drifted into northbound lanes, where they were broadsided by a pickup truck.

Both teens, who were students at Bear River High School in Grass Valley, were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say both were wearing seat belts, but may have been driving too fast for the weather conditions at the time.

Caltrans said Highway 49 at Joeger Road would be under one-way traffic control until the scene is cleared later in the evening.
