BUTTE COUNTY — Inmates of the Butte County Jail were evacuated due to the possible failure at the Oroville Dam emergency spillway.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Department says they evacuated all 578 inmates at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday out of an abundance of caution for the safety and security of the inmates. The inmates were escorted by the California Highway Patrol to the Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County.

In Sutter County, the sheriff’s department says about 100 high-risk inmates have been moved to counties not said to be threatened by the potential flooding risk.

Inmates at the Yuba County Jail in Marysville have been evacuated to different facilities, reports the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department. A listing of inmates and their new locations will be published to the department’s site.
