Former Lompoc Councilman Sentenced 45 Years to Life for Child Molestation Charges

LOMPOC (AP) — A former Lompoc city councilman, once regarded as one of his community’s most upstanding members, has been sentenced to 45 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to more than a dozen counts of child molestation.

The Lompoc Record reports Anthony “Tony” Durham was sentenced Thursday following an emotional hearing at which relatives denounced him as a vile human being whose actions destroyed their family.

Durham, 67, was once hailed in Lompoc for his public service, including spearheading a program to warn teens about the dangers of drinking and driving. The retired California Highway Patrol officer was named Lompoc Valley’s Man of the Year in 2008.

Last September he was arrested on charges of sexually abusing children, including one listed in court papers as age 10 or younger.
