Sacramento Has Shortage of Certified Lifeguards

SACRAMENTO -- The City of Sacramento says there is a shortage of certified lifeguards for its public pools.

City officials are now hiring for 80 lifeguard positions.

The Red Cross offers a course for lifeguards, which costs $185. The city is offering to reimburse class fees to lifeguards who commit to the whole summer.

Lifeguards in Sacramento earn an hourly wage of between $10 to $12.60.
